Christmas Tree Disposal

With the Christmas holiday behind us and the New Year here, we would like to encourage residents to take down and properly dispose of their Christmas trees.  Dried-out Christmas trees are extremely flammable and pose a heightened fire danger if not taken down and disposed of properly.  After being taken down, Christmas trees should not be left in the home or garage or placed outside against the home.

Options for Disposal:

GreenWaste customers with a yard waste container can leave their Christmas tree at the curb for collection with other yard waste.  For GreenWaste customers that do not have a yard waste container, GreenWaste recommends calling to arrange for a special pick-up.  The GreenWaste number for our area is (831) 426-2711.  To qualify for curbside pick-up, Christmas trees must be under 6’ tall (or cut into sections shorter than 6’), and must have all ornaments, lights, tinsel, and the tree stand removed (the tree must be completely bare).  Curbside pick-up of Christmas trees will only be available for the first two weeks of January.

For residents who are not GreenWaste customers, Christmas trees may be taken to the Buena Vista Landfill at 1231 Buena Vista Drive in Watsonville.
